Harmonikids Session for Disadvantaged Youth in Canada
05 April, 2019
On March 16th 2019 the Kamloops Music Collective had the privilege of getting a Hohner sponsored Harmonikids workshop from Gary Allegretto. It was an entertaining and interesting experience for all of the youth involved. The young musicians were thrilled to learn that not only would they be learning the basics of the instrument and how to play actual songs, but they could then take it home. With the knowledge they have received they can continue their study of harmonica, and become self-reliant for that learning. The young musicians who took part in the workshop were all kids in financial or economic difficulties and couldn't otherwise afford lessons. A few kids after the class remarked of how quickly it went by and how much they wished they could’ve kept learning. These experiences help shape the lives of these young people, and create lasting memories. Music touches the lives of these youth who grow up and continue the cycle of giving the gift of music. We are very appreciative of the time and energy spent creating and teaching this class to the young musicians of Kamloops. We know how much this means to our youth, and for that we thank you.
