Often my Harmonikids sessions have particularly deep-rooted personal meaning. This is especially true in the case of my return visits to the Sunflower Landing facility in Mississippi. So much of the music and musicians that made the Blues the most popular and beloved music ever to be played on the harmonica came from rural towns in the Mississippi Delta. Howling Wolf, James Cotton, and Sonny Boy Williamson are just a few of the great Blues harpmen to come directly from the area. In my teens I had the unsurpassed thrill of witnessing the legendary Clarksdale, Mississippi-born Bluesman Muddy Waters perform with his band that included the legendary Pinetop Perkins, James Cotton, and Bob Margolin. The experience changed my life and shaped my musical direction.

On May 8, 2017 I provided a Hohner/KHS sponsored Harmonikids session to a classroom of three dozen participants at the Access School for children with learning disabilities in Davie, FL. In spite of their many diverse obstacles to learning, all students were fully focused and engaged throughout the 90 minute session.

On April 27 and 28 I provided two Hohner-sponsored Harmonikids sessions to school children with special needs in Delaware.

On April 13, 2017 I provided a Hohner sponsored Harmonikids session to a classroom of 50 of special needs and disadvantaged kids to a Boys and Girls Club in Kennewick, Washington. In spite of their many diverse backgrounds and personal obstacles, all students were fully focused and engaged throughout the 90 minute session. They giggled with joy and astonishment as I entertained them. Then each was thrilled as I gently taught them to accurately play four songs on their new Hohner harmonicas.

On March 5, 2017 I brought my Hohner-sponsored Harmonikids session to the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center (SLVDC), In Salt Lake City Utah. SLVDC is a full-security facility designed to rehabilitate troubled youth detained by court order. Such facilities have become among my favorite to provide Harmonikids humanitarian services.
